What is Panchang?+
Panchang(literally "five limbs") is the traditional Hindu calendar and almanac. It consists of five elements: Tithi (lunar day), Nakshatra (lunar mansion), Yoga (luni-solar combination), Karana (half of tithi), and Vara (weekday). It is used daily to determine auspicious timings for rituals, ceremonies, and important activities.
The Tithiis calculated from the angular distance between the Sun and Moon. Each 12 degrees of separation equals one tithi, giving 30 tithis in a lunar month — 15 in the waxing phase (Shukla Paksha) and 15 in the waning phase (Krishna Paksha).
Checking the daily panchang is an integral part of Hindu tradition. It helps in selecting muhurtas (auspicious moments) for starting new ventures, performing puja, fasting on specific tithis like Ekadashi, and understanding the planetary influences of the day.

Indore, Madhya Pradesh's commercial capital. The Khajrana Ganesh Mandir is considered one of the most powerful Ganesh temples in central India, drawing devotees from across the region. Indore's Marwari and Gujarati merchant communities maintain deep traditions of muhurta observation for business, property, and marriage decisions.
Indore's solar year — sunrise, sunset and day length
In Indore the longest day runs 13h 23m (June) and the shortest 10h 37m (December) — a seasonal swing of 2h 46m. Five Elements of Indore Panchang
The traditional Panchang (पंचांग, meaning “five limbs”) comprises five essential elements that determine auspiciousness for any activity in Indore:
Tithi (तिथि)
Lunar day — the angular relationship between Sun and Moon. 30 Tithis per lunar month.
Nakshatra (नक्षत्र)
Lunar mansion — the constellation the Moon occupies. 27 Nakshatras in the lunar zodiac.
Yoga (योग)
Combination of Sun and Moon longitudes. 27 Yogas from Vishkambha to Vaidhriti.
Karana (करण)
Half-Tithi — there are 11 Karanas, cycling through 60 Karanas in a lunar month.
Vara (वार)
Day of the week, each ruled by a planet (Sun=Sunday through Saturn=Saturday).
Indore Festivals & Panchang
Indore's major festivals — Navratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali— are calculated using the Hindu lunisolar calendar. Festival dates change each year because the lunar calendar drifts against the solar calendar. The Panchang above shows today's Tithi and Nakshatra. For complete annual festival almanacs with specific timings for Indore, use the Ishvaram Jyotish app.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is today's Panchang calculated for Indore?
The Panchang for Indore is calculated using Swiss Ephemeris with Indore's exact coordinates (Madhya Pradesh, latitude/longitude). Sunrise in Indore ranges from 5:45–7:13 AM seasonally, which affects the start of each Tithi. The Panchang shows today's Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana, and planetary positions — all calibrated to Indore's local time.
Can nearby towns like Bangarda Chhota use Indore's Panchang timings?
Almost, with a small shift. Bangarda Chhota lies 5 km north-west of Indore and sees sunrise 0m to +1m against it, so the sunrise row of this Panchang moves by that much there. Across the recorded places within 150 km of Indore that shift stays between −3m and +3m through the year — the nearby-place table above lists each one. For a town whose shift runs past a few minutes, compute with its own coordinates instead of copying Indore's slot.
Why are Indore's Panchang timings different from other cities?
Panchang timings vary because they are based on actual astronomical observations for a specific location. Indore's sunrise (5:45–7:13 AM), longitude, and latitude determine the precise start and end times of Tithis, Nakshatras, and Yogas. A Indore Panchang uses the city's actual coordinates rather than a single standard Indian time.
When is Navratri in Indore in 2025–2026?
Navratri dates are determined by the Hindu lunisolar calendar and are the same across India, though local observance customs vary. The Panchang above shows today's Tithi and Nakshatra, which you can use to track approaching festivals. For annual festival calendars, the Ishvaram Jyotish app provides complete Indian festival almanacs with Indore-specific timing where relevant.
