Why does Vedic astrology give a different sign than Western?
Because Jyotish uses the sidereal zodiac, measured against the fixed stars, while Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, measured against the equinox. The two have drifted roughly 24 degrees apart, so a Western Leo is frequently a Vedic Kark. Neither is a mistake — they answer to different reference frames, and Ishvaram computes with the Lahiri ayanamsa throughout.
Do I need to learn this to use the site?

What is the significance of Nakshatra Padas (quarters)?
Each of the 27 Nakshatras spans 13°20' and is divided into 4 equal quarters (Padas) of 3°20' each. Each Pada corresponds to a specific Navamsa sign and is linked to one of the four goals of life (Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha). How do Mahadashas activate specific houses in a Kundali?
A Mahadasha activates the graha that rules the period, the house that graha occupies, the houses it rules as a lord, and any houses it aspects. For example, during a Jupiter Mahadasha, events related to wealth, wisdom, children, and higher learning come to the forefront of your life experience.
