What is Panchang?+
Panchang(literally "five limbs") is the traditional Hindu calendar and almanac. It consists of five elements: Tithi (lunar day), Nakshatra (lunar mansion), Yoga (luni-solar combination), Karana (half of tithi), and Vara (weekday). It is used daily to determine auspicious timings for rituals, ceremonies, and important activities.
The Tithiis calculated from the angular distance between the Sun and Moon. Each 12 degrees of separation equals one tithi, giving 30 tithis in a lunar month — 15 in the waxing phase (Shukla Paksha) and 15 in the waning phase (Krishna Paksha).
Checking the daily panchang is an integral part of Hindu tradition. It helps in selecting muhurtas (auspicious moments) for starting new ventures, performing puja, fasting on specific tithis like Ekadashi, and understanding the planetary influences of the day.

Kalika Mata Mandir in Anand Colony, Ratlam's most celebrated temple dedicated to the goddess Shakti, hosts an annual Navratri fair renowned across Malwa for its Garba, the city's cultural signature. Mahalaxmi Temple draws devotees in large numbers during Diwali. Further afield, the Kedareshwar Mahadev Temple about 20 km away at Sailana, carved from a single igneous rock cliff, and the 11th-century Bilapkeshwara (Virupaksha) Shiva shrine about 18 km away at Bilpank, are district highlights. Navratri, Maha Shivaratri, Diwali, Holi, and Karva Chauth mark the city's festival calendar. Panchang, choghadiya, and rahu kaal timings are computed for Ratlam's exact coordinates.

Five Elements of Ratlam Panchang
The traditional Panchang (पंचांग, meaning “five limbs”) comprises five essential elements that determine auspiciousness for any activity in Ratlam:
Tithi (तिथि)
Lunar day — the angular relationship between Sun and Moon. 30 Tithis per lunar month.
Nakshatra (नक्षत्र)
Lunar mansion — the constellation the Moon occupies. 27 Nakshatras in the lunar zodiac.
Yoga (योग)
Combination of Sun and Moon longitudes. 27 Yogas from Vishkambha to Vaidhriti.
Karana (करण)
Half-Tithi — there are 11 Karanas, cycling through 60 Karanas in a lunar month.
Vara (वार)
Day of the week, each ruled by a planet (Sun=Sunday through Saturn=Saturday).
Ratlam Festivals & Panchang
Ratlam's major festivals — Navratri (Garba at Kalika Mata), Maha Shivaratri, Karva Chauth— are calculated using the Hindu lunisolar calendar. Festival dates change each year because the lunar calendar drifts against the solar calendar. The Panchang above shows today's Tithi and Nakshatra. Frequently Asked Questions
How is today's Panchang calculated for Ratlam?
The Panchang for Ratlam is calculated using Swiss Ephemeris with Ratlam's exact coordinates (Madhya Pradesh, latitude/longitude). Sunrise in Ratlam ranges from 5:51 AM–7:09 AM seasonally, which affects the start of each Tithi. The Panchang shows today's Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana, and planetary positions — all calibrated to Ratlam's local time.

Auspicious muhurtas in Ratlam depend on today's Tithi, Nakshatra, and Choghadiya periods. The Panchang above shows planetary positions and the current Tithi. For specific muhurtas (Vivah, Griha Pravesh, Vyapar, etc.), combine the Panchang data with the Choghadiya calculator — both are available for Ratlam on this site.
Why are Ratlam's Panchang timings different from other cities?
Panchang timings vary because they are based on actual astronomical observations for a specific location. Ratlam's sunrise (5:51 AM–7:09 AM), longitude, and latitude determine the precise start and end times of Tithis, Nakshatras, and Yogas. A Ratlam Panchang uses the city's actual coordinates rather than a single standard Indian time.
When is Navratri (Garba at Kalika Mata) in Ratlam in 2025–2026?
Navratri (Garba at Kalika Mata) dates are determined by the Hindu lunisolar calendar and are the same across India, though local observance customs vary. The Panchang above shows today's Tithi and Nakshatra, which you can use to track approaching festivals. For annual festival calendars, the Ishvaram Jyotish app provides complete Indian festival almanacs with Ratlam-specific timing where relevant.
