Before diving into any single planet, it helps to understand the machinery every transit page on this site shares: what a gochar is, why Vedic practice counts it from the Moon, and where transits sit in the hierarchy of prediction.
The moving sky laid over a frozen one
Your kundali is a photograph of the sky at the moment of your birth -- the planets never move inside it. A gochar, or transit, is the live sky: where each graha actually is right now, continuing its endless journey through the twelve rashis. Transit astrology is the practice of laying that moving sky over the frozen one and asking which parts of the birth promise are being touched, awakened, or tested at this moment.
Every planet keeps its own clock
The grahas move at wildly different speeds, and this hierarchy is the backbone of all transit work. The Moon crosses a rashi in about two and a quarter days, the Sun in a month, Venus and Mercury in a matter of weeks, Mars in roughly a month and a half, Jupiter in about a year, the nodes Rahu and Ketu in about eighteen months, and Saturn in roughly two and a half years. The slower the planet, the longer it presses on one area of your chart, and the more weight a Jyotishi gives its transit.
