The tithi and nakshatra shown are those at local sunrise on the selected date. They can change during the day; their end times mark the next transition.
Sunrise and sunset depend on your location. Tithi transitions occur at the same instant worldwide, but their local clock times differ. The tithi present at sunrise can therefore differ between places.
Tithi — the lunar day
Each 12° interval of the Moon’s angular separation from the Sun is one tithi. A tithi can start or end at any hour; it is not a fixed 24-hour day.
Nakshatra — the Moon’s position
The sidereal zodiac is divided into 27 equal sections. The section containing the Moon at sunrise gives the nakshatra shown here.
Calculation method
Sun and Moon positions are calculated with Swiss Ephemeris. Rashi and nakshatra use the sidereal zodiac with Lahiri ayanamsa, the adjustment between tropical and sidereal positions.
Astronomy and traditional guidance
Celestial positions and rise/set times come from astronomical calculations. Rahu Kaal and auspicious muhurat labels apply traditional Jyotish rules to those timings; they are not scientific predictions of personal outcomes.
Timing limitations
If the sunrise or sunset calculation is unavailable, approximate times may be used. This result does not identify whether that fallback was used. A missing Moon time means the time is unavailable, not proof that the Moon does not rise or set that day.

Was today's Panchang accurate?
A Panchang for New Delhi is the day's Hindu almanac computed from the city's own sunrise, sunset and coordinates, never one standard clock. It reads five angas together — Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karana — to describe the day's quality and choose supportive timings for puja, vrat and new beginnings.

The 5 Angas (Limbs) of Panchang
A panchang has five angas (limbs) — tithi, vaar, nakshatra, yoga, and karana — the five time-elements every Hindu almanac computes for a given day and place.
| Anga | What it measures |
|---|---|
| Tithi | The lunar day — the Moon's angular distance from the Sun (30 tithis per lunar month) |
| Vaar | The weekday, ruled by its planetary lord (e.g. Ravivaar is ruled by Surya) |
| Nakshatra | The lunar mansion the Moon occupies (27 nakshatras) |
| Yoga | Derived from the combined longitude of the Sun and Moon (27 yogas) |
| Karana | Half of a tithi (11 karanas cycle through the month) |
What Each Panchang Element Means
A Jyotishi does not read Panchang as a list of names. The ganana tells which Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana, and Vara are active; the end-time tells whether that quality still applies when you begin a puja, journey, payment, meeting, or sankalp.
| Element | How it is calculated | Why it matters | What to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tithi | Moon-Sun angular distance in 12-degree steps | Decides Vrat, festival observance, paksha, and the devata focus for the day. | The end-time matters. If Ekadashi ends before sunrise tomorrow, the Vrat rule changes. |
| Vara | The weekday counted from local sunrise | Connects the day to Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Budh, Guru, Shukra, or Shani. | A Jyotishi reads it with the day's Tithi and Nakshatra, not as a standalone muhurat. |
| Nakshatra | Moon's sidereal position across 27 lunar mansions | Guides activity quality, Tarabalam, naming letters, and many muhurat rules. | A Nakshatra can change during the day; check the 'upto' time before any sankalp. |
| Yoga | Combined sidereal longitude of Sun and Moon in 27 divisions | Shows the sukshma quality of the day, from supportive Yogas to obstacle-heavy ones. | Yoga is not the same as yoga-asana; it is a panchang limb used for timing. |
| Karana | Half of a Tithi, so each lunar day carries two Karana periods | Useful for karya timing; Vishti/Bhadra Karana is traditionally avoided. | Karana changes more often than Tithi, so the current period can shift quickly. |
Why Panchang Changes by City and Region
Panchang is desh-kaal based: place and time both matter. The same Gregorian date can carry different local muhurat windows because sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and Tithi boundaries are tied to the city.
City-specific sunrise
Rahu Kaal, Gulika Kaal, Yamaganda, Brahma Muhurat and Abhijit Muhurta all depend on local sunrise and sunset. Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai cannot share the same timings.
Amanta and Purnimanta months
North India often follows Purnimanta month naming, while many western and southern traditions use Amanta. The Tithi is the same, but the month label can differ.
Festival rules use the relevant Tithi window
Many festivals are decided by whether a Tithi touches sunrise, pradosh, nishita, or moonrise. The date should come from panchang ganana and the festival rule, not from memory.
How to Use Today's Panchang
Start with Tithi and Nakshatra for the day's dharmic quality. Then check the shubh windows: Brahma Muhurat for early puja and mantra, Amrit Kaal for supportive karya, and Abhijit Muhurta when no other clear muhurat is available. Finally, avoid starting important work during Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, Gulika Kaal, and Bhadra/Vishti when it is active.
For personal decisions, combine the public Panchang with your kundali. A day may be generally shubh, but your active Dasha, Moon sign, and chart doshas decide whether the same timing supports your specific sankalp.
How This Panchang Is Different From a Generic Almanac
Most panchang sites publish one pan-India timing, or quietly default to a single metro. But sunrise, Rahu Kaal and the choghadiya windows shift by many minutes across the country, so a national almanac is simply wrong for where you actually are.
Computed for your exact city. Pick your city and the sunrise, sunset, Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana, Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, Gulika and choghadiya are calculated from that city's real latitude, longitude and timezone — so the muhurat is correct for you, not for the site's default city.
Real astronomical ganana, timezone-aware. The times come from the Swiss Ephemeris and are converted to your local time — not rounded lookup tables and never a stray UTC offset. That is why a Delhi sunrise reads as a Delhi sunrise, down to the minute.
Timing you can actually plan around. A shubh muhurat only helps if it is accurate for your location. The choghadiya and Rahu Kaal windows here are the ones to schedule a puja, a purchase or a journey around — because they are computed for your city, today.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is today's Panchang based on?
Today's Panchang is calculated using the Swiss Ephemeris for exact planetary positions (Lahiri Ayanamsa). It evaluates the five core limbs (Pancha-Anga): Tithi (lunar day), Nakshatra (lunar mansion), Yoga, Karana, and Vara (weekday), along with local sunrise, sunset, Rahu Kaal, and Abhijit Muhurat.
How do I check Shubh Muhurat in today's Panchang?
Look for the Abhijit Muhurat (around local solar noon) and Amrit Kaal windows in the daily breakdown above. Avoid initiating major tasks during Rahu Kaal and Yamaganda periods.
Why do Tithi and Nakshatra timings differ by city?
While the Moon's absolute celestial degree is the same, traditional Vedic day markers (such as sunrise, sunset, and solar midday) change by geographic latitude and longitude. All city-specific Panchang pages on Ishvaram compute local astronomical timings.
The Engine Behind This Reading
Today's Panchang is computed by the same astronomical engine a serious Jyotishi relies on — the Swiss Ephemeris, which fixes every planet's position to sub-arcsecond precision, read against the Lahiri ayanamsa (the sidereal zodiac Vedic astrology uses). No fixed-calendar shortcuts, no rounded almanac tables.
We calibrate that engine to within ±5 minutes on every time-of-day value, and an exact match on tithi and nakshatra names — so the figures you read here are the same ones your family astrologer would quote from the panchang.
