Guru is the largest planet and in Lal Kitab it is the natural benefic — even in uncomfortable houses, its damage is less severe than that of malefics. Well-placed (houses 1, 2, 5, 7, 9, 11), Guru creates wealth, wisdom, progeny blessings, and the respect of one's community. Uncomfortable (houses 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12), it blocks the flow of abundance and creates obstacles in the life domains that require grace — education, children, marriage, accumulated prosperity. Guru Rin (debt to teachers) is one of Lal Kitab's five primary debt categories.

Donate turmeric and chana dal on Thursday: Yellow items — turmeric, chana dal, yellow cloth, and banana — donated to Brahmins, teachers, or temples on Thursdays are Guru's primary Lal Kitab remedy. Thursday is Guru's day; yellow is Guru's colour. | Apply saffron or turmeric tilak on forehead: Applying a tilak of saffron (kesar) or turmeric paste on the forehead daily is a continuous Guru upay. The tilak activates Guru's energy at the Ajna chakra level and is one of Pt. Joshi's most accessible remedies. | Feed monkeys or priests bananas and chana dal: Feeding monkeys (Guru's animal in some Lal Kitab traditions) or Brahmin priests with bananas and chana dal on Thursdays is the prescribed feeding upay for Guru. Monkeys at temple premises are the traditional recipients. | Wear a gold ring on the index finger: A plain gold ring worn on the index finger (Guru's finger) is Guru's metal upay. Gold must be pure (at least 22k). Do not cut Peepal trees — Peepal (Ficus religiosa) is associated with Guru in Lal Kitab and damaging it is said to afflict Jupiter. Avoid arrogance or dismissing elder's knowledge. Do not use turmeric carelessly — it is Guru's sacred material and misuse weakens the upay.

Guru Rin is detected when Jupiter is afflicted in houses 2, 5, 9, 10, or 12. Pt. Joshi described this as a karmic blockage arising from disrespecting teachers, misusing knowledge for personal gain, or failing to share wisdom. The remedy involves consistent service to teachers, educational institutions, or religious scholars.
