Malavya Yoga
Malavya is the Pancha Mahapurusha yoga of Venus, one of five yogas formed by a strong planet on an angle of the chart. It needs Venus in one of three signs and that sign to be a kendra from the Lagna.
How it forms
Venus is in its own sign (Vrishabha or Tula) or its exaltation sign (Meena), and that sign is a kendra (1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house) from the Lagna.

Conditions that weaken or cancel it
- The rule counts kendras from the Lagna, so a birth time accurate enough to fix the Lagna is needed.
- A Venus that is combust (within about 10 degrees of the Sun) is weaker than the yoga assumes.
- The dignity matters: exalted Venus in Meena and own-sign Venus both qualify, but a Venus heavily afflicted by malefics gives less of the yoga.
Is Malavya Yoga in your chart?
The Ishvaram kundali engine marks Malavya when Venus is in Vrishabha, Tula or Meena and in the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house from the Lagna. It grades the yoga strong, or moderate when Venus is retrograde. It does not check combustion or malefic affliction.
Malavya counts kendras from the Lagna, which moves through all twelve signs in a day, so the check needs your birth time.

What it means
- BPHS describes the Malavya native's appearance (beautiful lips, slender waist, lustre like the Moon, a fragrant body, long arms) and a comfortable life as a ruler (75.17-19).
- It shows a strong Venus: the significations of Venus, such as comfort, art, relationships and vehicles, are well supported.
What it does not mean
- The regions and ages named in BPHS (ruler of Sindhu and Malwa, seventy years of life) describe an archetype, not a forecast.
- It does not guarantee wealth or a happy marriage by itself; the houses Venus rules for your Lagna and the dasha sequence decide how it shows.
- It is a supportive combination and needs no remedy or gemstone.
Malavya Yoga questions
Which Lagnas can have Malavya yoga?
Venus must be in Vrishabha, Tula or Meena, and that sign must be the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th from the Lagna. Every Lagna can have it; for example a Mithuna Lagna has it with Venus in Meena (the 10th), and a Kumbha Lagna with Venus in Vrishabha (the 4th).
Is Malavya yoga the same as Venus being exalted?
No. Exalted Venus is one part of it. The yoga also needs that sign to be a kendra from the Lagna. Venus exalted in the 5th house, for example, is strong but does not form Malavya.
Should I wear a diamond or white sapphire for Malavya yoga?
Malavya is a supportive yoga and does not call for a remedy. Whether any gemstone suits a chart depends on the houses Venus rules for that Lagna, not on the yoga. A gemstone is always optional; nothing needs to be bought. Consult an astrologer before wearing any gemstone.
